Taking the online route is a great way to gain an education while still balancing work and life. Staying organized as a student makes the process a whole lot easier. Below, we’ve highlighted 6 ways to remain organized in an online course!
1. Make a Schedule
Take a look at your assignments early on and commit to due dates in your calendar. Also designate study times for each course in order to hold yourself accountable for sticking to them.
2. Set Reminders
Many of our students choose the online option because of flexibility. You’ll most likely be juggling family and work while taking our courses, so set yourself reminders. This will ensure you won’t get too distracted by other tasks.
3. Plan Ahead of Schedule
If you really want to be on top of things, aim to complete online tests and projects 1-2 days ahead of your deadlines. This way, if an unexpected wrench gets thrown in your day- such as an unexpected work issue or sick child- you won’t be completely out of luck.
4. Create a Quiet Workspace
Taking online courses can sometimes require more motivation than attending a classroom. Set up a quiet area for completing coursework where distractions are minimal. If you find you are distracted at home, consider a coffee shop or local library. For more insight on creating a productive and functional home office space, also check out this blog.
5. Stay Connected
Try to connect with your professor as well as other students. Some of our students have done this by creating private Facebook groups and have used them to workshop their writing, talk about ideas, and offer study tips! If your course offers an online forum, be sure to use it to ask questions and stay connected!
Communicate with your family when you have important assignments and tests so that they understand when you need some time to yourself. Also communicate with your instructor in advance if you are struggling to keep up with the workload and if you need any deadlines extended.
