Are you at your best when you have your hands on a hammer or a saw? Do you long for a job with lots of action and variety? If so, this program will teach you the basic skills you need to get a job as a residential carpenter.
First, you’ll explore what it’s like to work in the construction industry. After that, you’ll learn the basic math you’ll use on the jobsite and take an in-depth look at how to read blueprints.
Next, you’ll delve into jobsite safety and explore OSHA laws. You’ll also discover how to use hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently, and learn about fasteners and rigging.
Then comes the fun part: you’ll find out how to build a house from the floor to the roof. You’ll explore framing and finishing, see how to assemble stairs, and take a look at installing cabinets and countertops.
Finally, you’ll put it all together in three hands-on workshop projects that will help you gain experience and confidence. By the time you’re done, you’ll have all the skills you need to get an entry-level position in the construction industry.
Upon registering, you're given an initial six months to complete this program. Should you need more time beyond the six months, an extension of six months is available at no additional cost.
