The mission of Haywood Community College is to offer accessible education, social, and cultural opportunities to residents of Haywood County and the surrounding area. Through its open-door policy, the College strives to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, resources, interests, abilities, and career goals. In recogition of this diversity, the College provides a variety of quality programs and services that are responsive to the needs of all individuals.
Haywood Community College opened in 1965 and is an affirmative action/equal opportunity college. More than 1,500 students attend classes through its continuing education division, including adult basic education, GED preparation, occupational courses, and community service programs.
HCC is located in Clyde, NC, on 83-acre campus, which features an arboretum and teaching forest. The natural beauty of the campus is a backdrop for modern facilities, including a student center with a 1,150-seat auditorium, state-of-the-art labs and shops, and a child care center.
At easily accessible sites close to the main campus of the Human Resources Development Center, Continuing Education buildings, and the Regional High Technology Center---one of only two in the state and home to advanced technological programs and facilities.
HCC seeks to take learning beyond the classroom by encouraging individuals by developing their abilities and problem solving, leadership, critical thinking, and entrepreneurship. As a community college Haywood endeavors to reflect state, national, and global trends in its educational programs and to serve the surrounding community by fostering economic growth in the County and region.
