HCC serves District 540, a geographic corridor that extends along Interstate Highway 55 in Illinois roughly from Pontiac to Lincoln. Campus locations in Normal, Lincoln and Pontiac make the College an accessible option for all District residents.
Heartland History
November, 1990 - District 540 Community College officially formed
December, 1990 - First temporary site, Landmark Mall, opens
February, 1991 - Heartland Community College wins name contest
July, 1991 - First president, Dr. Jonathan Astroth, appointed
August, 1991 - College opens for classes
October, 1992 - Classes begin at Towanda Plaza
Fall, 1993 - Nursing program begins
Summer, 1994 - College accredited by North Central Association of Colleges & Schools
June, 1998 - Permanent campus ground breaking
February, 2000 - New logo adopted
Fall, 2000 - New campus opens
