satisfied student"I've been telling everyone how great your online classes have been. With my own small business and family, this is the only way I could take classes. I really appreciate the flexibility!"   -Laura

Waubonsee Community College, a two-year public institution of higher learning, came into existence in July 1966 when the electorate of school districts in most of Kane and portions of Kendall, DeKalb, LaSalle and Will counties voted to establish Illinois Community College District 516.

Waubonsee opened its doors for classes on Sept. 11, 1967, with an initial enrollment of 1,603 students: 403 full time and 1,200 part time. The college has grown steadily, currently serving over 10,000 students each semester.

In December of 1967 the college established a permanent campus on a 243-acre tract of land north of Sugar Grove on Route 47.

In 1986, Waubonsee opened the campus in downtown Aurora. Waubonsee established a major extension center in January 1997 on the Rush-Copley Medical Center campus, adjacent to Route 34 in far east Aurora.

Waubonsee Community College is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) and is recognized by federal and state agencies administering financial aid.
