satisfied student"I've been telling everyone how great your online classes have been. With my own small business and family, this is the only way I could take classes. I really appreciate the flexibility!"   -Laura

Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College (formerly West Virginia State Community and Technical College) is located on the 85 acre campus of West Virginia State University, located in the foothills along the Kanawha River in the suburban community of Institute, West Virginia. It is eight miles west of Charleston, the state capital and part of West Virginia's largest metropolitan area.

Founded in 1891, West Virginia State College attained national prominence as an institution of higher education for blacks, and among other specialties, it continues to serve as a center of black culture. Voluntary desegregation in 1954 created a distinctive "living laboratory of human relations," attracting a racially and culturally diverse student body, faculty, and staff. Both the college and Community and Technical College cherish this unique history and reputation for safeguarding academic freedom, for being innovative in scholastic programming, and for removing barriers to education and leadership for women, minorities, and the handicapped.

The Community and Technical College provides programs and courses of instruction through the associate degree level, encompassing occupational-technical education, college transfer education, general education, developmental education, continuing education, and workforce development. The total enrollment for 2001-2002 in credit classes was 3,739. The total number of clients served in workforce development and continuing education programs and courses by the end of the 2002 spring semester was 2,880.

Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College is accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
