Principles of Green Buildings

The Principles of Green Buildings Online Training Program is designed to teach you the principles you must know in order to make buildings perform more efficiently. The program was developed and written in partnership with nationally recognized building science experts from Advanced Energy of North Carolina. The Principles of Green Buildings Online Training Program will even help prepare you for industry credentials (BPI, NATE, NARI, RESNET) for green building!

This 3-month program will give you the science behind the concept of house-as-a-system by going through all of the major subsystems that affect the way the entire structure system performs. A building that performs correctly will offer the best energy efficiency, provide a healthy environment for its occupants, and maintain its structural integrity. Upon successful completion of this program, you will understand the interaction of individual building systems in the whole-house operation, and will have completed the initial portion of home performance certifications!

Roger DesRosiers

Roger DesRosiers has an extensive career in HVACR with 30 years as an apprentice instructor and seven years as a college professor. He's also spent many years as a Journeyman Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Steam fitter; an Estimator/Application Engineer; Supervisor of Air Conditioning; Refrigeration and Steam fitting; and Craft Head of Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Steam fitting. Over the years, he has earned an Associate's and a Bachelor's degree in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, and an Associate's in Electronics. Among his professional certificates are: Teaching Certificate in Vocational Education for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Certified Energy Manager from the Association of Energy Engineers, Certified Member of Refrigeration Service Engineers Society, and Certified Member of Plumbing Industry Progress in Education. He is 608 EPA Certified. Recently, Roger authored and edited a number of online courses and an article on Tech Tips. He also completed a course in online faculty training to bring our students the very best in both teaching and technical industry knowledge.

Principles of Green Buildings Requirements / Prerequisites

To enroll in this program, you must have a computer with Internet access and be comfortable with e-mail and Internet navigation. This program is for you if you're beginning your career in the home performance workforce or exploring that realm of work. Home performance covers a broad range of trades and occupations, including HVAC technicians and building envelope workers, such as air sealing, insulation, and vapor barrier workers, and siding and window specialists.

While high-speed Internet is recommended, you can still take the program using dial-up, but you'll have a limited experience. This program is compatible with the Windows XP and later operating systems and IE 7 and later browsers. Please note: AOL, MSN, Opera, Safari and Camino browsers are not supported.

Can I register for programs if I am an international student?

Yes, because ed2go programs are online you never have to actually travel to the school. Most schools offer telephone or online registration.

How long does it take to complete a program?

All of our programs are self-paced and open enrollment. You can start and finish the program at your own pace. Upon registering, you're given three months to complete this program.

ed2go courses are non-credit courses, so they do not qualify for federal aid. In some states, vocational rehab or workforce development boards will pay for qualified students to take our courses.

What happens when I complete the program?

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be awarded a certificate of completion.

Am I guaranteed a job?

ed2go programs will provide you with the skills you need to obtain an entry-level position in most cases. We do not provide direct job placement services, but our instructors will help you build your resume and are available to give advice on finding your first job. Instructors will also be available to use as a professional reference upon completion of the program. Potential students should always do research on the job market in their area before registering.

Who will be my instructor?

Each student is paired up with a facilitator for one-on-one interaction. The facilitator will be available (via e-mail) to answer any questions you may have and to provide feedback on your performance. All of our facilitators are successful working professionals in the fields in which they teach.

What software or hardware do I need in order to take online programs and what are the system requirements?

In order to take our online programs, you must have access to a computer and the Internet (high speed Internet access is recommended). You can access the program contents from any Web-enabled computer. You don't have to use the same computer to log-in to the program every time. Computers that support the following browsers are adequate:
