Travel Agent Training

Whether you’re an experienced world traveler or just have wanderlust, the Travel Agent Online Training Program can start you on the path toward a fulfilling career as a professional travel agent. Our travel agent training goes beyond the basics to give you all the insider information about the airline industry, cruises, tours, reservations and pricing, and specialty travel, plus workplace and marketing tips that are proven to lead to success. At the end of this course, you’ll be prepared to sit for the Travel Agent Proficiency (TAP) test.

If you want to become a travel agent, online courses can help you get started. This program consists of three modules. In the first module you’ll learn the basics of the travel industry, followed by a second module in which you’ll study geography for travel professionals. In the final module, your facilitator will help you to select the proper Global Distribution System (GDS) to best achieve your career goals. Finally, you will be able to sit for the TAP test, offered by the Travel Institute. The registration fee for this exam is included with this program.

Patricia has been fortunate to work for wonderful companies such as Carlson Wagonlit Travel and Travelocity. Making domestic and international air, car, hotel, train and tour reservations, Patricia presently works as a home agent for American Express Platinum Travel preparing luxury travel. Patricia is an expert in Native Sabre and Turbo Sabre Systems and has a lot of experience in the travel industry.

Travel Agent Training Requirements / Prerequisites

There are no specific prerequisites for this program. This program is for you if you want to enhance your travel industry knowledge or jump-start your career in the travel industry.

This program is compatible with the Windows XP and later operating systems and IE 7 and later browsers.

This course can be taken on either a Mac or a PC. Students will need to have an Internet connection and email capabilities.

A career in travel allows you to share your passion with others by offering advice on trip destinations, planning trip itineraries, and making travel arrangements for your clients. Travel agents sell and book travel for everything from family vacations, to honeymoons, to corporate travel. It’s their job to tailor aspects of the trip to their clients’ needs. Travel agent classes are a great way to learn all the details of the industry that you will need to know to start a travel career. As you advance your career, you can even specialize in a specific type or region of travel.

Can I register for programs if I am an international student?

Yes, because ed2go programs are online you never have to actually travel to the school. Most schools offer telephone or online registration.

How long does it take to complete a program?

All of our programs are self-paced and open enrollment, so you can start them when you want and finish them at your own pace. Upon registering, you're given six (6) months to complete this program. 

What if I don't have enough time to complete my program within the time frame provided?

The time allotted to complete your program has been calculated based on the number of hours for each program, so don't worry too much about not completing in time. If, after a concerted effort, you are still unable to complete, your Student Advisor will help you work out a suitable completion date. Please note that a fee may be charged for an extension.

Do I have to buy additional materials?

All the materials you'll need are included, and their cost will be covered by your tuition. ed2go will ship all materials ground service upon enrollment.

Can I get financial assistance?

ed2go courses are non-credit courses, so they do not qualify for federal aid. In some states, vocational rehab or workforce development boards will pay for qualified students to take our courses.

What happens when I complete the program?

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be awarded a certificate of completion. In addition, you will receive an exam voucher for the TAP (Travel Agent Proficiency) test, offered by the Travel Institute (formerly ICTA), after successful completion of the program and financial obligation.

Am I guaranteed a job?

ed2go programs will provide you with the skills you need to obtain an entry-level position in most cases. We don't provide direct job placement services, but our facilitators and career counselors will help you build your resume and are available to give advice on finding your first job. Facilitators will also be available to use as a professional reference upon completion of the program. Potential students should always do research on the job market in their area before registering.

Who will be my instructor?

Each student is paired up with a facilitator for one-on-one interaction. The facilitator will be available (via e-mail) to answer any questions you may have and to provide feedback on your performance. All of our facilitators are successful working professionals in the fields in which they teach.

What software or hardware do I need in order to take online programs and what are the system requirements?

In order to take our online programs, you must have access to a computer and the Internet. You can access the program contents from any Web-enabled computer. You don't have to use the same computer to log-in to the program every time. We recommend that you have a word-processing program (Microsoft Word is best) and the latest version of Internet Explorer.

The Travel Agent Proficiency or TAP test is the first step towards professional recognition. The test allows students to demonstrate that they have mastered the basics of the travel industry – selling skills, basic geography, and the items/products sold by travel counselors.

What is a certified travel agent?

A certified travel agent has earned one of the available industry certifications, such as Certified Travel Associate (CTA) or Certified Travel Counselor (CTC). While they are not required to work in the industry, travel agent certifications can add prestige to your resume.
