As businesses continue to rally for data-driven decision making, employees with database knowledge are in high demand. This online training program will prepare you to use SQL Server 2008 product features and tools related to maintaining and implementation as well as to use SQL Server 2008 integration, reporting, and analysis tools to access and process the data necessary to create business solutions. This program prepares students for two exams: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Implementation and Maintenance exam (70-432) and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Intelligence Development and Maintenance (70-448).

As you work towards preparing for your MCSA: SQL Server 2008, you will learn how to create database objects, constraints, and alter DML triggers. You’ll learn to query and modify data, as well as how to work with functions. To further your expertise, you will also explore troubleshooting and optimizing SQL Server 2008 and the steps to install, manage, and maintain SQL servers. This program will round out your knowledge by teaching design and implementation of a data warehouse and deployment of SSIS solutions. The program combines lessons, tests, reading assignments, exercises, and simulated labs within the online environment.

Chris Lobban 

Chris Lobban has industry experience with an extensive assortment of hardware and software solutions. He has worked both in a help desk environment and as a quality assurance analyst, where he had to deal with an array of hardware requirements, operating systems, and computer programs every day. This broad experience, as well as his formal training as a computer networking and technical support specialist from Seneca College, gives him the foundation needed to provide support to his students. Chris’ credentials include the CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ credentials, as well as the Microsoft MCSE (Windows Server 2003), MCSA (Windows Server 2003), MCDST (Windows XP), and MCITP Enterprise Desktop Support Technician (Windows 7) credentials. He has working knowledge and experience with SQL Server. Additionally, he is a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) and a CompTIA Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+).

Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA): SQL Server 2008 Requirements / Prerequisites

Students should have one to two years of experience using SQL Server 2008 or two to three years of experience using a previous version of SQL Server.

Two textbooks are included with your tuition:

  • Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-432): Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Implementation and Maintenance
  • Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-448): Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Business Intelligence Development and Maintenance

This program can only be taken on a PC. You will need Internet Explorer version 8 or higher. You will also need Windows XP, Vista, or 7. In addition, you will need Adobe Flash and Adobe Reader. 

This program is compatible with Windows 8/ Internet Explorer 10, as long as the following criteria is met:

  • Java must be downloaded and installed manually, as it's not installed by default on Windows 8.
  • Internet Explorer 10 must run in "Desktop" mode in order for Java to work properly

Can I register for programs if I am an international student?

What software or hardware do I need in order to take online programs and what are the system requirements?

In order to take our online programs, you must have access to a computer and the Internet. You can access the program contents from any Web-enabled computer. You don't have to use the same computer to log-in to the program every time. We recommend that you have a word-processing program (Microsoft Word is best) and the latest version of Internet Explorer.

Can I use a Mac?

No, this program must be taken on a PC.

How do you do the applied labs if you don’t have equipment?

The majority of labs can be done using the online lab system. A link to schedule the lab is included with the course for each lab that can be done online.

Does this program lead to a certification?

Yes, this program prepares you to take the MCSA certification exams 70-432 and 70-448, which qualify you for the MCSA: SQL Server 2008 Certification. Upon successful completion of this program, you will receive vouchers for these Microsoft exams.

What if I don't have enough time to complete my program within the time frame provided?

The time allotted to complete your program has been calculated based on the number of hours for each program, so don't worry too much about not completing in time. If, after a concerted effort, you are still unable to complete, your Student Advisor will help you work out a suitable completion date. Please note that a fee will be charged for an extension.
