Week 1

In the first lesson you will review some basic number properties. You’ll learn about integers, exponents, roots, and multiple-step problems. You will then learn how to put them into the calculator. Then you’ll learn about the percents you find in retail from both a consumer and managerial perspective. You will go over discounts, sale prices, and sales tax. You will learn about tipping, markup, and handling money in the retail work environment.

Week 2

Learn everything you need to know about income. You will learn how to calculate your paycheck no matter how you’re paid, taking into consideration: taxes withheld, insurance and saving for retirement. Then you will learn about where to put your money once you have it. This lesson discusses financial institutions; banks, credit unions, and savings and loans. You’ll discover what to look for in an institution and what questions to ask. You will also learn ways to keep a check register in order and how to balance a bank statement.

Week 3

This lesson covers the basics of earning interest. You will learn features and terminology of several types of interest earning investments; bonds, certificates of deposit, and money market accounts. Then you will study what happens when you pay only the minimum balance on a credit card each month. You will also see what happens when you pay as little as $10 or $20 extra each month.

Week 4

The goal in this lesson is to explore the different aspects of a mortgage payment (principle, interest, taxes, and insurance or PITI) and the amount of money you’ll need up front. Then you will be given step-by-step instructions for setting up ratios and proportions. This will allow you to convert even the most complicated measurements.

Week 5

In this lesson, you will learn how to calculate area in different units of measurement and how to convert between them. You will also learn a little about metrics, and learn a very simple conversion method. Then you will learn about probability as it is used in the gaming industry, in forecasting weather, and in determining insurance rates.

Week 6

This lesson begins by discussing statistical data and how it is chosen. Next you’ll learn about four commonly used statistical measures: mean, median, mode, and range. You will calculate a few of these measures and discuss what each means, individually and as a group. You will also learn to read and interpret a test score report with confidence. Finally you will learn about the different types of graphs and which is best suited for displaying a particular type of information or relationship.  You will discover the best use of each type of graph and how to read each one.
