Integrating Technology in the Classroom

In this professional development course for teachers, you will learn the secrets of technology integration in the classroom.  You will gain sills needed to use tools such as wikis, podcasts, and blogs effectively.  You will discover simple ways to integrate technology to enhance your subject material and meet your Common Core standards and other course goals   

You will learn how to design your presentation station based on auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning styles; indentify kid-friendly Internet search tools; teach keyboarding and word processing; use tablets and assistive technology; and develop standards-based, integrated lesson plans in reading, writing, science, math, social studies, music, and art.  You will also discover ways to reach special needs, GATE, and English language learners. Whether you are new to the integration processor or already use emerging technologies in your classroom, this course is a must for today’s teachers and future teachers who often have to produce more and more in less and less time.

Week 1

In your first lesson, you will learn the important differences between the traditional classroom and the technology-friendly one.  You will discover how to balance a realistic integration plan to enhance your basic educational objectives.  Then you will discover the different types of technology you will need to improve student learning based on auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning styles.  You will discover audio devices, projection tools and mapping websites, and hands-on learning through a classroom technology presentation station.  You will learn to make the most of assistive technology, iPad apps, tablets, student response systems, mind mapping tools, document cameras, projectors, smart TVs, CAT systems Whiteboards, SMART Boards and much more.

Week 2

In this lesson, you will explore student-friendly Internet search engines and directories that you can use to safeguard your students’ online experience. You will also discover the power of the bookmark and bookmark management tools.  Then you will start with the basics:  integrating keyboarding and word processing.  You will discover great ideas for integrating keyboarding and word processing into your classroom. 

Week 3

In this lesson, you will explore using blogs and reading technology integration in your classroom.  You will discover ways to pair new reading technology and Common Core and traditional ELA standards.   Then you will learn how to locate the best apps, Internet sites, and classroom activities to help your students fall in love with the written word.  You will look at ways to integrate technology into your writing curriculum.  At the end of this lesson you will create a classroom writing wiki, a website that anyone can edit.

Week 4

This lesson is packed full of technology and classroom tips that you can use to excite your students about science and science fair projects.  You will look at standards and ways to meet them as you integrate technology.  You will explore some helpful and interactive science websites and apps.  You will learn how to podcast science fair project observations.  Then you will learn how to use Word and Excel in math lessons.  You will discover fun websites, apps and computer activities that will enhance your math lessons.  

Week 5

In this lesson, you will explore online museums, music downloads, and art and music technology integration.  You will also discover some practical ways to integrate these subjects in the midst of funding shortages.  You will end this lesson with some basic ways for creating a website where you can display your classroom works of art.  

Week 6

In this last lesson, you will explore using technology to meet the needs of special needs, GATE, and English language learners.  You will learn to customize WebQuests that will engage each group of students with different activities as part of the same writing lesson that works great for differentiated instruction.  You will learn to integrate strategies, including Bring Your Own Device and the flipped classroom.

When can I get started?

A new session of each course opens each month, allowing you to enroll whenever your busy schedule permits!

How does it work?

Once a session starts, two lessons will be released each week, for the six-week duration of your course. You will have access to all previously released lessons until the course ends.

How long do I have to complete each lesson?

Keep in mind that the interactive discussion area for each lesson automatically closes 2 weeks after each lesson is released, so you’re encouraged to complete each lesson within two weeks of its release.

What if I need an extension?

The Final Exam will be released on the same day as the last lesson. Once the Final Exam has been released, you will have 2 weeks plus 10 days to complete the Final and finish any remaining lessons in your course. No further extensions can be provided beyond these 10 days.
