In your first lesson, you will gain a clear understanding of what centers are. You will learn three components that will make your centers effective and beneficial for your students. You will discover the reasons centers are a valuable part of your daily routine. Then you will learn about some of the common mistakes teachers make when creating centers and discover some ideas for centers that will help you avoid these pitfalls. You will gain some useful insights about creating paperless centers and begin to plan your own centers.
This lesson will show you how to pare down your centers planning. You will examine your daily schedule and figure out how long your centers session should last each day. This will help you determine how many centers you will need. Then you will discover the reasons behind a center grouping strategy and how to rotate your students quickly and easily to ensure every child visits every center every week.
Learn a great method for storing the materials you need as you go. You will discover how to put students in charge of their work for the week and keep track of what needs to be done. You will also discover an effective way to track student progress and give feedback. Then you will learn how to navigate the ins and outs of center introductions.
Explore the items you may want to review with your students, and you will discover a fun game to make that process more memorable. You will learn about your role in the first week of centers and learn to make your centers as kid-friendly as possible. Then you will be taken through the process of changing centers each week. You will see how you can use data you gather about your students’ progress to inspire you as you create new centers.
In this lesson, you will explore different grouping strategies for small-group instruction. Then you will learn how you can use the choice activities introduced as part of your centers routine during other parts of your day. You will gain many ideas for choice activities for math and language arts.
In this lesson, you will branch out to include centers that revolve around different subject areas. You will explore center possibilities in science and social studies that include art, literature, and vocabulary practice. You will also examine ways to incorporate technology like interactive white boards, apps, websites, and software. Finally, you will explore center ideas for activities that practice specific skills and ideas to practice rote concepts like spelling words and math facts.

She spent 12 years teaching in fully inclusive settings in an elementary school in New Hampshire, where she also served as chairwoman of both her local and district professional development committees. She now works as an author, trainer, and educational consultant speaking at school leadership seminars, teachers' conferences, and schools around the country. A new session of each course opens each month, allowing you to enroll whenever your busy schedule permits!
Once a session starts, two lessons will be released each week, for the six-week duration of your course. You will have access to all previously released lessons until the course ends.
Keep in mind that the interactive discussion area for each lesson automatically closes 2 weeks after each lesson is released, so you’re encouraged to complete each lesson within two weeks of its release.
The Final Exam will be released on the same day as the last lesson. Once the Final Exam has been released, you will have 2 weeks plus 10 days to complete the Final and finish any remaining lessons in your course. No further extensions can be provided beyond these 10 days.
