Then, learnbasic operating system concepts and the various operating systems (and versions) covered on the CompTIA A+ exams.

Week 2

You'll learn the final preparation steps for installing or upgrading Windows, how to actually install the OS, what to do when you're done, and how to troubleshoot any problems that occur. Then, learn how Windows uses processes and services, the building blocks for everything running in Windows, and about special Windows tools for programmers.

Week 3

Learn how to use the text-based command-line interface. Then, because Microsoft Windows looms large in the CompTIA A+ objectives, we'll discuss how to download the latest Windows updates and service packs from Microsoft. You'll also learn about the tools and utilities included in Windows that keep it healthy, like Disk Defragmenter and the System Configuration tool.

Learn about how to improve the performance of your system by optimizing your hardware and software. Then, explore how to troubleshoot the boot process.

We'll also discuss application issues like bad installations and compatibility. Then, we'll discuss virtualization—using special software to run a second operating system within your real OS as well as the types of virtualization and popular virtualization software.

Intermediate CompTIA A+ Certification Prep Requirements / Prerequisites

Successful completion of the Basic CompTIA A+ Certification Prep course; access to a PC running Windows Bonus: access to a computer running macOS. Although this course focuses on operating systems, you should have access to a hard drive that you can install, format, and partition, and to a couple of Plug and Play devices that you can practice installing. Because of the dangers of electro-static discharge (to the machine, not the student), we do not require you to tear apart your own primary computer (and definitely do not recommend that you format or partition your primary hard drive!).
