This course, the first part of a two-course series, will demystify the PMBOK® Guide! Find out about the 10 Project Management Knowledge Areas, 5 Process Groups, and 47 project management processes. This course will help you gain clarity about a variety of topics like precedence diagramming, estimating, and scope management.

Project Management Institute (PMI) recently updated the PMBOK Guide with changes to the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam taking effect March 26, 2018. This course currently references the PMBOK Guide – Fifth Edition and the current version of the PMP exam. We welcome you to enroll in this current version of the course as it reflects the current version of the PMP exam.

A course that references the PMBOK Guide – Sixth Edition and the upcoming versions of the PMP exam will be available January 2018.

Learn about a number of important project management certification concerns, including the PMI, PMBOK® Guide, and Project Management Professional (PMP)® Certification. Then, get a helpful overview of projects and project management.

Week 2

Learn about important topics related to project management. You will consider the phases of projects, as well as the stakeholders and structures involved. Then, you will focus on the PMBOK® Guide's process groups.

Week 3

Learn about process interactions involved in management projects, then discover how to develop a project charter. Through this process, you will learn about the various parts involved in a project management plan.

Week 4

Learn how to plan scope management for your projects, while collecting requirements and defining scope. Then, discover how to create WBS, validate, and control the scope of a project.

Week 5

Focus on defining and sequencing the activities involved in a management project, then develop skills and methods for estimating activity resources and durations.

Week 6

Learn how to both develop and control a schedule for your projects. Then, learn and practice the interpersonal skills necessary for success.

Tony Swaim has helped many clients, colleagues, and students reach their professional and personal goals. He has been an online instructor since 1998 and has taught at colleges and universities across the United States since 1981. His focus areas are project management, Six Sigma, and supply chain management. Tony manages a successful consulting firm, and his industry experience includes 20 years of supply chain management. He earned a Doctorate in Business Administration from Kennesaw State University and holds professional certifications in six disciplines, including the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI)® and Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB)® from the American Society for Quality (ASQ)®.

When can I get started?

A new session of each course opens each month, allowing you to enroll whenever your busy schedule permits!

How does it work?

Once a session starts, two lessons will be released each week, for the six-week duration of your course. You will have access to all previously released lessons until the course ends.

How long do I have to complete each lesson?

Keep in mind that the interactive discussion area for each lesson automatically closes 2 weeks after each lesson is released, so you’re encouraged to complete each lesson within two weeks of its release.

What if I need an extension?

The Final Exam will be released on the same day as the last lesson. Once the Final Exam has been released, you will have 2 weeks plus 10 days to complete the Final and finish any remaining lessons in your course. No further extensions can be provided beyond these 10 days.
