Expand All
Week 1

Discover what makes young adult fiction the most exciting choice for your writing. Then, explore the difference between story and plot, and select the right dramatic elements for your own original story.

Week 2

Create your characters and give them goals and flaws that will bring your story to life. Then, analyze the story patterns used in today's best-selling young adult fiction and discover how to apply these lessons to your story.

Week 3

Master the three-act structure upon which all great fiction is based, and apply it to your own story. Then, examine the ebb and flow of plot and story. You will use this to create scenes, transitions, and chapter breaks in your own work.

Week 4

Bring your young adult story to life by creating conflict, suspense, and mystery. Then, develop your skills in writing dialogue to create realistic "teenspeak" for your story. You will discover there are some kinds of dialogue that aren't spoken.

Week 5

Experiment with three different viewpoint choices and two different tenses, and decide which works best for your young adult story. Then, explore voice, and give your young adult story deeper meaning and bigger impact by using techniques to write big.

Week 6

Explore the collateral you'll need to create along with your long form, including a synopsis that sells your story, and compare your work to a handy Manuscript Evaluation Checklist to help you prepare for publication. Finally, discover surefire strategies for publishing your very own young adult fiction.
