About Franklin Technology Center

FTC is an accredited vocational training school managed by the Joplin R-VIII School District. The mission of FTC is to provide students of all ages with the opportunity to gain the technical skills and knowledge consistent with the needs of the local community and employers competing in a global market. Vocational training has been available through Franklin Technology Center for over seventy years. Both full-time and part-time instruction is available for secondary and post-secondary students, as well as a complete offering of continuing education. The open door philosophy at Franklin Technology Center allows access to admission in programs based on aptitude, interest, abilities, and specific program entrance requirements. Recognizing that all applicants are not qualified to enter all programs, admission does not guarantee acceptance to specific programs of courses. Franklin Technology Center began its secondary training in vocational education in 1937 with only two programs. In 1965, the current facility at 2020 Iowa was constructed, and a new addition was built in 1979 to double the size of the existing structure. Twenty-nine vocational programs are provided for secondary and post-secondary students, plus an evening adult and continuing education program. In May 1995, Franklin Technology Center once again expanded by opening its doors on the Missouri Southern State University Campus. This facility houses the Health Science and other technical programs. Franklin Technology Center is accredited by the Missouri State Board of Education and North Central Association. Individual programs are accredited by a variety of accreditation agencies. (Please check with the coordinator of the program for any specific information on accreditation).
