fax.gif (4104 bytes)So you've heard that fax machine prices have dropped in recent years. Your business is rapidly growing and you're tired of driving five miles just to pay Kinko's to send your faxes. Well, you can get a fax machine for just over $100, but you're looking at around $300-$500 to get a machine with decent speed and resolution. After you buy your fax machine, you'll soon realize that you need another phone line to separate your faxes from your phone calls. So now you've got to worry about the cost of the phone line installation, jack installation, and your monthly phone bill. Furthermore, you'll need to by paper for your fax machine, and periodically replace the ink cartridge. You'll probably spend at least $1000 in your first year of faxing.

Fortunately, Fax4Free.com has come up with a new way for you to send and receive faxes. After you set up an account with Fax4Free, you're able to send and receive faxes online, and totally free. How is Fax4Free able to offer you this service without charge? Every fax that you send or receive will have a thin advertisement running down the length of the page. Your message is handsomely displayed in the center of the page. Fax4Free even provides you with a cover letter!

fwave.gif (4506 bytes)The process to open up an account with Fax4Free is surprisingly simple. First you must have a fax number. Not to worry. You can point your web browser to Callwave.com to receive your own free fax number. When the page comes up, you'll see bright yellow letters that read 'Click here for your FREE personal fax number.' Do exactly that and a new page will pop up. First, you pick your fax number (there are usually three to choose from). Second, you enter and reenter your e-mail address. Third, you fill out a form that provides CallWave with some basic information about you. After the form is complete, your free fax number is posted on the screen. (I'd recommend writing this number down).

Now that you have your own fax number, point your web browser to Fax4Free.com. Click on the link which reads 'First time users click here.' Fill out the form that appears and click on the 'Enter' button. You'll then be asked a few more questions about how you'll use Fax4Free's service. Click on the 'Continue' button when you've answered these questions. That's it!

You'll be taken directly to Fax4Free's user page. From this page you can compose and mail a fax from your browser, fax an MS Word document, modify your address book, manage your fax queue, modify your account information, and sign up for premium services that Fax4Free offers. (Premium features include advertisement-free faxes and a larger address book to store names and fax numbers).

Each time you send a fax using Fax4Free's service, an e-mail is sent to you, verifying that your fax was sent. I wanted to find out how quickly a fax would get to the recipient, so I faxed myself. The fax came through within minutes. When someone sends you a fax, it's e-mailed to you as an attachment. To view the fax, just open up the e-mail and double-click on the attachment.

Fax4Free has truly come up with a great service, at a great price. So before you decide to invest in a fax machine, a phone line, a phone jack, paper, ink, and long distance faxes, you might want to give Fax4Free a shot. What have you got to lose? It's free!
