In partnership with Model Teaching, an industry leader in supporting educators, his course will help you become more familiar with the Gradual Release of Responsibility—an instructional model that gradually moves the responsibility of learning from the teacher to the student. Model Teaching's Mission is to improve student performance by directly supporting teachers with quality content and resources. You will analyze each component of this model and explore the roles of the teacher and the students in interacting with the lesson content.
In the introductory teacher professional development course, you will be introduced to the Gradual Release of Responsibility teaching model as an instructional method you can implement into your classroom. You will evaluate the step-by-step progression of instruction from direct instruction to collaboration to independent learning. You will also analyze the roles of the teacher versus the student in each component of your lesson. You will create a gradual release lesson plan by the end of the course, ready for implementation in your classroom.
