This suite of online courses will teach you the fundamentals of technical writing. You'll learn best practices for turning complex information into simple content that's easily accessible and sharable to the everyday reader.

Introduction to Microsoft Word 2019/Office 365

This course will introduce you to the 2019 version of Microsoft Word, available through the Office 365 online platform. You will learn the basics of Word 2019 needed to write and edit text and to create, format, and organize documents.

Intermediate Microsoft Word 2019/Office 365

Take your Microsoft Word 2019 skills to the next level. You'll learn how to use a number shortcuts and time-saving techniques to create complex documents.

Adobe Acrobat X

Learn how to work with Adobe Acrobat X's features, such as backgrounds, bookmarks, and modified page sizes to help unify your documents. You'll also learn how to streamline the entire collaboration process by simplifying document review cycles with Acrobat X.

Fundamentals of Technical Writing

This course will teach you the fundamental writing techniques used by technical writers. You will learn how to translate complex, technical writing conventions, interviewing skills, desktop publishing, formatting techniques and documentation management.

Hardware Requirements:

  • This course must be taken on a PC device. A Mac OS is not compatible.

Software Requirements:

  • PC: Windows 10 or later operating systems.
  • Browser: The latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are preferred. Microsoft Edge and Safari are also compatible.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader. Click here to download the Acrobat Reader.
  • Microsoft Word, a subscription to Office 365, or Microsoft Office Home and Student 2019 (not included in enrollment).
  • Adobe Acrobat X Professional (Windows), Adobe Acrobat X Standard (Windows), or Adobe Acrobat X Professional (Mac), either as a standalone product or as part of a collection (not included in enrollment).
  • Microsoft Office programs such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Creative Suite programs such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator (not included in enrollment) are used in preparation of the course materials, although they aren't necessary to complete the course. Access to these programs will be useful for personal project development.
  • Software must be installed and fully operational before the course begins.
  • Other: Email capabilities and access to a personal email account.


Completion of Introduction to Microsoft Word 2019 or basic familiarity with Microsoft Word's word processing and editing.
