Jennifer MacMillan has been teaching CAD for 22 years and is an Autodesk Certified Instructor (ACI). She currently manages a team of curriculum developers that design and develop curriculum for the Autodesk line of engineering software products. As a subject matter expert herself, MacMillan focuses her development efforts working specifically with the manufacturing software products. She holds a mechanical engineering degree from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Michelle Rasmussen is a specialist in the civil engineering industry. Michelle has worked with and created training curriculum for AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D since 2007. Additionally, Michelle is the first Autodesk Certified Instructor (ACI) and Evaluator (ACE) worldwide for Civil 3D. Michelle has also held roles on the Autodesk Authorized Training Center Advisory Board and Leadership Council, where she served as Chair and Vice Chair.
Renu Muthoo is a computer engineering graduate from Bangalore University, India. She has worked with Autodesk products for the past 18 years, focusing mainly on AutoCAD and Autodesk’s design visualization software products such as 3ds Max, VRED, and Showcase. Using her engineering background and expertise in Autodesk products, she has co-authored a number of books. She currently works as a curriculum developer and subject matter expert for Autodesk products.
Prior to enrolling this course, you should have taken AutoCAD 2018 or have equivalent experience with the 2D commands and software interface for AutoCAD 2018. You should also have a basic knowledge of the Windows operating system and be comfortable installing software, working with file structures, downloading files, and unzipping compressed files.

AutoCAD permits companies to virtually plan and design projects which increases productivity and lowers the cost of completing them. The most common job obtained by those who complete AutoCAD training is that of a CAD drafter which is needed in several industries including architecture, engineering, computer science, and construction.
To become a CAD drafter, you will need to obtain formal training in the use of AutoCAD through a course like this one. This course even leads to certification as an Autodesk Certified User. You may decide to further continue your education by obtaining an associate degree in drafting to open up even more opportunities in the future.

Your salary will vary depending on the type of job you choose as well as your education and experience level.
Yes, trained AutoCAD drafters are in demand, and employment is expected to grow by 7 percent according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It notes that increased construction activity will drive up the demand for drafters, however as engineers and architects increasingly perform some of the tasks drafters traditionally preformed the job growth will be kept lower than it could have been otherwise.
Drafters will spend a majority of their time in an office working in front of a computer, though some may be required to visit jobsites in order to collaborate with other industry professionals such as engineers and architects as well as clients.
Drafters will typically work full time at around 40 hours per week, however you may be asked to work overtime including later nights and weekends when important project deadlines are approaching.
In order to be a good CAD drafter, you will need to understand how to use the AutoCAD software well including commands. You will need to have good time management skills, the ability to work well under pressure, and the ability to prioritize tasks to complete multiple jobs before their specified deadlines. You will also need good organization skills and a high attention to detail. Finally, you’ll need to have good communication skills as you’ll be responsible for communicating with peers, supervisors, and perhaps even customers.
