Dr. Shaw is a wonderful instructor. From the start of the course she made a comfortable environment which encouraged students to submit their assignments and participate in the discussion areas. I will definitely be taking another one of her classes."
Eva, at your suggestion, while I was in your Writeriffic class that ended in October, I submitted an article to my local newspaper when they put in a call for guest writers. I just received confirmation that I will be one of three guest columnists for 2011—I will have 4 articles published! I spent time yesterday talking with the editor and she got me in touch with a writer's group in this area. This new world of writing is opening up to me. I'm very excited and I have you to thank for the nudge! This course will help me to refine my work and the feedback will give me the confidence to turn it in, not just to the newspapers, but also to magazines."
Eva Shaw is a great instructor. She teaches and motivates the students from and experienced based position, instilling confidence, encouraging the student to take positive steps toward their goals."
Eva, while reading Lesson 12 I began sobbing. Thank you for believing in us. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for your love of the written word and how you use it to connect, teach and inspire."
Eva, your assignments are wonderful instruments for helping us down the path of becoming better writers, better people. Keep it up. Thanks!"
Eva, your class has been a turning point for me. Thank you for your lessons and encouragement. I've gone from saying "I want to be a writer" to "I AM a writer." I hope to take another of your classes sometime soon, possibly magazine writing. Thanks again!"
Eva has found the right mix of lessons for an Advanced Writing class. Her commitment to teaching is, as aways, very strong. She comments constructively on all submitted work, and encourages useful and positive feedback from fellow students. She creates a wonderful, positive class, that was very inspiring. Very well done!"
Eva, I truly appreciate all your help, encouragement and patience. I can honestly say had it not been for you and this amazing class, I wouldn't be writing."
Eva Shaw is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Her encouragement and enthusiasm for the field of writing is inspiring. I would encourage anyone that has ever considered writing, to take her Writeriffic course. Whether you wish to be published or not, you will finish her class with a sense of accomplishment."
Eva, thanks so much for all you have taught me in this class. I never expected to get so much valuable info in a short six week class. Thanks also for the nudges and your kind words. You are the best! I really enjoy taking your classes. Look for me soon in your magazine writing class."
Eva & Classmates: Thank you so much for your encouragement through this online classroom! I will now be able to officially say that I have been PUBLISHED - I would have never thought of writing an essay or having it accepted by a magazine. It's just Lesson 6 and I'm a published author. Now I need to write more! Thank You SO much for your guidance."
Eva has been the best writing instructor I've ever had, always providing positive guidance without any form of discouragement. A simple "nudge" here and "let me point you in this direction" etc., is quite refreshing from an instructor instead of the raw criticisms that may hinder one's goal to write and share a personal life story. Thank you Eva and thank you classmates."
Eva, you have an extraordinary gift reaching students of all levels. You have much to offer all who want to discover and explore, becoming more aware. As a teacher and writer you have a divine gift and for me this course has been an answer to prayer. I wish I could have taken it 50 years ago."
It may sound corny, but I feel that someday I'll look back and know "this is the course that got me started". Thanks to Eva."
I took this course because I wanted to improve my chances of getting published. I had already read a book by Dr. Eva Shaw and had found it the most practical book on writing I had ever read. Consequently, I was excited to take this course. This class has not only given me new insight but renewed confidence as well. I would highly recommend any class taught by Eva Shaw."
What a unique class! This was my first-ever online class. And I did not expect the whole process of learning to write for magazines to feel so natural. This was sooo cool! Many thanks to Eva and all the classmates. I printed and saved several of the discussions because they had such useful ideas."
The editor of a magazine has asked me to proceed with my article on discrimination for their upcoming issue. I am so excited!!! Thank you so much, Eva. This would never have happened if I had not taken your class."
Eva, you were brilliant and inspirational! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. I really enjoyed the supplementary section of each lesson, I never realized just how many resources were at my fingertips! You've definately pointed me in the right direction. Many Thanks!"
I am glad I signed up for this course. I now have the basic tools to get started in something I always wanted to do. Thank you Eva!"
I have thoroughly enjoyed this class and will implement many of the lessons learned to further my writing. It has been a pleasure to meet and interact with so many talented, creative writers and I just want to extend my thanks to Eva for her positive encouragement. I will miss you all."
I took this course to tighten up on my writing with better use of language, research and editing. Eva was excellent from the first assignment and I was able to learn some important techniques for my craft. I wish I could bottle her. Thanks so much, Eva. I feel that I have grown so much."
I submitted my work from this course to a local contest and I won! I'm pretty proud of myself, but moreover I want to thank Eva for not only her support, but everything down to offering this class, caring about it, encouraging us, providing us such fantastic stepping stones, and being, in general, awesome."
Two days ago I was offered to write a monthly column for our newspapers family page. I am thrilled to be able to write on a consistent basis for a publication. And I owe some of this to you, Eva. If you hadn't made the comment that a previous assignment from the descriptive settings course would make a good newspaper article, I would never have submitted it for publication. Thanks!"
Over the last five months, I have taken four of the six courses taught by Eva. I just began "Write Your Own Story" this week and I plan to sign up for Writeriffic II next month. Before taking these courses, I had a story rolling around my head for years, actually several stories. I never believed I was capable of actually writing these stories and the thought of pursuing a published piece was unthinkable. Eva's classes have challenged me to face the fears, and begin to create on paper something I have only dreamed of doing. I have discovered more about myself in these last five months than I have in six years of education to become a therapist. Which class to take first? Whichever one jumps out at you first. Each class has invaluable information, challenging assignments, tips, inspiration, and a clear path to guide writers to their goals."
If I have grown it is because of you and your course. This is the most amazing, touching and practical (all at the same time) course I have ever had in writing -- maybe that I have ever had. Have to admit I've not taken many courses in creative writing, nonetheless, this course and your approach, have truly changed my thinking about whether or not I could publish what I write. I thank you, Eva, and I will be a familiar name in your other courses."
This class was the best I've ever taken. The exercises Dr. Shaw provided enabled me to stretch my writing capabilities in a way I never dreamed possible. I have never written as well as I have in this class. Her lessons were detailed and provided me with invaluable information and the tone she set in the class motivated me to not only want to write well but to interact creatively with other members in the class. Dr. Shaw's willingness to give 150% motivated me to want to give back even more. Kudos to Dr. Shaw for a fantastic class."
This was my first online course, and it has been a very positive learning experience. I felt I got my money's worth and had enough time to submit assignments and do lessons. I enjoyed the interaction with the other students as well as with the teacher/friend/encourager Eva. Well done!"
