In partnership with Model Teaching, an industry leader in supporting educators, you will learn about the definition of a drop-out, early warning indicators for children at risk of dropping out, and the root causes of those indicators. Model Teaching's Mission is to improve student performance by directly supporting teachers with quality content and resources. You will be taught various strategies to support your students using the REACH OUT Method, a helpful tool teachers can use to ensure they are providing the right support to their students as a safety net within their classroom and place them on a path to success.

This teacher professional development course will teach you about your students who may be identified as at risk of dropping out of school either now or in the future. The course will teach you about the common early warning indicators for student dropouts and the potential root causes of those indicators to help you better understand all the students with varying needs who enter your classroom.

You will explore what support looks like for students at risk of dropping out and evaluate what happens when a teacher does not understand them. You will also learn about the REACH OUT Method for students, providing you with numerous strategies to consider as you work to support your students in the classroom. The course comes with a downloadable PDF of the content, quizzes, and videos to help you test your knowledge and a REACH OUT resource for later reference.

Syllabus

Understanding Students at Risk of Dropping Out Course Content
1. The video and article will provide you with an understanding of students that may be at risk of dropping out, with strategies to support them while in your class. The course also includes some "Reflect or Discuss" prompts to help you connect with the course content and ends with a "Try This Task" to guide you explicitly on how you might implement the ideas into the classroom.
Quiz
1. You will answer questions related to students at risk of dropping out. Quizzes are automatically scored and provide feedback on answer choice rationale.
Implementation Reflection
1. The reflection prompt requires you to plan for use of the "try this task" by either reflecting on the content yourself or discussing them with the colleague. You will then discuss a new concept you can attempt to implement in the future based on something you learned in the course.

1. This short statement helps you reflect on your ideas and assess whether you might be successful in your implementation.
