Details

The SQL Series will help you gain a full understanding of this universal programming language. You'll start by learning key concepts and move on to more advanced topics as you progress through the lessons. By the end of the series, you'll have a solid working knowledge of SQL.

Start with the key concepts of SQL as you learn about the basic structure of relational databases and how to write simple and complex SQL statements. You'll learn to write queries to create tables; retrieve data from single or multiple tables; delete, insert, and update data in a database; gather significant statistics from data stored in a database; and more. Your new skills with databases will enhance your competitiveness in the technical fields of software development and database administration.

Requirements

Hardware Requirements:

  • This course must be taken on a PC. A Mac is not compatible.

Software Requirements:

  • Windows 8 or newer.
  • Browser: The latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are preferred. Microsoft Edge is also compatible.
  • Any Database Management System (DBMS) (not included in enrollment) that you are familiar with that supports the execution of Structured Query Language (SQL), such as:
    • Microsoft Access
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • Oracle
    • MySQL
    • Sybase
    • PostgreSQL
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader. Download the Acrobat Reader.
  • Software must be installed and fully operational before the course begins.

Other:

  • Email capabilities and access to a personal email account.

For Introduction to SQL: Any type of computer with a Windows Operating System, and any desktop (standalone, not required to run over a server) or client/server (required to run over a server) Database Management System (DBMS) that you are familiar with that supports the execution of Structured Query Language (SQL). Examples include Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, PostgreSQL.

For Intermediate SQL:

The instructional materials required for this course are included in enrollment and will be available online.
