Then examine various types of costs, determine what cash flow really means, identify key differences between financial and cost accounting, and explore how to make rational investments.

Interpersonal Communication

Week 1

Explore two detailed models that explain the complex nature of communication. You'll learn how words, the situation, what's going on in the heads of those communicating, and even environment are all connected—and that they all change from one communication event to the next. Then learn seven premises of communication that will help you understand how to respond in any situation and two strategies for improving communication competence when you feel shy, apprehensive or reluctant.

Week 2

Learn how our individual emotions, beliefs, attitudes, and values as well as self-esteem and group belonging influence how we communicate and how we seek gratification of specific human needs through the communication process. You’ll also come to understand how language affects reasoning abilities and its limits.

Week 3

Learn that men and women develop and use very different nonverbal communication behaviors—sending messages of either inclusion or exclusion. Then look at cultural identity and how it molds habits of communication no matter what the language of the culture is and how individuals and groups generalize and stereotype others.

Week 4

Week 5

You’ll also examine several communication theories that will be useful in analyzing and understanding communication behaviors of yourself and others and learn how you can influence the behavior of others in the communication situation.

Finally, you'll learn how to identify various types of interpersonal conflicts. You’ll also learn how to dissect a conflict and apply four steps to successful conflict resolution at work, within the family, or among friends.

Marriage and Relationships: Keys to Success

Week 1

Maintaining a relationship is a skill that anyone can improve, and in this lesson, you'll start to learn how. Then, you'll find out about the seven stages that every relationship goes through. Knowing these stages will help you to predict problems and defuse them.

Week 2

Explore the balancing act between the focus on the “we” of the relationship and the focus on the two individual “I’s” that define each partner as you find out how you and your partner can each fulfill your needs and still have the freedom to grow individually. Then, learn the rules of fair fighting to properly handle inevitable disagreements.

Week 3

Learn to recognize the warning signs of marital problems that could lead to divorce, and take action to keep your relationship healthy. Then, we'll explore repairing a damaged relationship, dealing with grudges, and rebuilding trust.

Week 4

In this lesson, we'll talk about how to make relationship tune-ups effective and fun. Then, you'll learn how to make sex enhance, not disrupt, your closeness with your partner.

Week 5

In this lesson, we’ll tackle the topic of adultery. By understanding the source of adultery, you can either avoid it in the first place or withstand the emotional turmoil that cheating can bring. Then, learn how to deal with relationship triangles which form when your relationship involves more than two people (children, family, friends, etc.), or when money issues or other problems outside the relationship demand attention.

Week 6

Learn to deal with money issues that may arise and keep your relationship happy, healthy, and loving—regardless of how much money you might have! And finally, we'll talk about reasons to end a relationship and reasons to hold on
