This online course will take you on a journey from little or no knowledge of IT topics to the knowledge needed to demonstrate Linux and cloud environment proficiencies. The course begins with a foundational understanding of computer hardware, software, and operating systems and walks you through concepts related to system administration, networking, troubleshooting, the Internet, cloud, security, DevOps, project management, and open-source software and licensing.

Requirements

Prerequisites:

This course assumes no previous Linux knowledge. It does, however, require some IT experience on other operating systems, such as logging into a Graphical User Interface (GUI), running applications from the GUI, downloading files from the Internet, and installing software packages on your selected system.

Hardware Requirements:

  • This course can be taken on either a PC or Mac. Chromebooks are not compatible.

Lab Requirements:

The demo/lab environment is Virtual Machine focused. Your system will need to have one of the following environments (hypervisor) installed:

  • VMware player or Workstation
  • Oracle VirtualBox
  • KVM

You will need to have the necessary skills to create a virtual machine on the chosen hypervisor. The machine should have a minimum of 4GB of memory and 20GB of free disk space.

Software Requirements:

  • PC: Windows 10 or later.
  • Mac: macOS 10.6 or later.
  • Browser: The latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox is preferred. Microsoft Edge and Safari are also compatible.
  • Microsoft Word Online
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Software must be installed and fully operational before the course begins.

Other:

  • Email capabilities and access to a personal email account.
