Heartland History November, 1990 - District 540 Community College officially formed December, 1990 - First temporary site, Landmark Mall, opens February, 1991 - Heartland Community College wins name contest July, 1991 - First president, Dr. Jonathan Astroth, appointed August, 1991 - College opens for classes October, 1992 - Classes begin at Towanda Plaza Fall, 1993 - Nursing program begins Summer, 1994 - College accredited by North Central Association of Colleges & Schools June, 1998 - Permanent campus ground breaking February, 2000 - New logo adopted Fall, 2000 - New campus opens
