Learn how to start developing a useful career plan, regardless of whether you're at the beginning of your journey or have been traveling on the road for a while. You’ll also take an in-depth look at goal setting.
Learn to become a better communicator with verbal and written communication principles. You’ll also work to improve your listening skills and understand how your nonverbal communication can benefit or hinder you.
Understand and apply the keys to personal organization: awareness, preparation, execution, and follow-through to become more organized. Then examine key elements of problem solving, present a model of decision-making, and discuss how to use numerical methods to arrive at the best solutions.
Learn concepts of time management that will help you increase productivity and accomplish a greater number of objectives. You’ll also learn to understand what stress really is, identify where it comes from, find out how it affects you, and apply some stress reduction and coping strategies.
Understand what risk is and learn concepts and strategies to help you take calculated risks and make the right choices. You’ll also learn all about conflict including where it comes from and different strategies that can help you manage it constructively
The final week of the course deals with financial skills. You’ll learn the differences between bookkeeping and accounting, share basic accounting terms, view various types of accounting methods, and walk through the two most widely used financial statements. Then examine various types of costs, determine what cash flow really means, identify key differences between financial and cost accounting, and explore how to make rational investments.
Becky and Tony Swaim have helped thousands of clients, colleagues, and students reach organizational and personal goals. Working in the medical, manufacturing and education fields, the Swaims manage a successful consulting firm in southern California. Starting her career as a medical administrative assistant, Becky provides assistance as a program manager to various medical practices and has managed a large staff in the medical reimbursement field. Becky earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Speech Communication from California State University, Long Beach. Tony Swaim has been an accomplished online instructor since 1998. His industry experience includes twenty years of medical device manufacturing management. Tony's consulting areas are project management, customer service, total quality and supply chain management. He earned an MBA from California State University, Long Beach and holds professional certifications in five disciplines.

A new session of each course opens each month, allowing you to enroll whenever your busy schedule permits!
Once a session starts, two lessons will be released each week, for the six-week duration of your course. You will have access to all previously released lessons until the course ends.
Keep in mind that the interactive discussion area for each lesson automatically closes 2 weeks after each lesson is released, so you’re encouraged to complete each lesson within two weeks of its release.
The Final Exam will be released on the same day as the last lesson. Once the Final Exam has been released, you will have 2 weeks plus 10 days to complete the Final and finish any remaining lessons in your course. No further extensions can be provided beyond these 10 days.
With my present responsibilities I would not have been able to attend regular classes so the convenience of this course was tremendous. The course covered a lot of ground quickly, but the on-line resources were wonderful, and I hope to make use of them often. Thanks for the opportunity to participate.
